AFTER SCHOOL COUNSELOR
PAY RATE : 17. 00–20.00/hour
JOB TYPE: Part-time, In-person
LOCATIONS: Brooklyn, NY (PS 32, PS38, The Brooklyn Brownstone School)
SCHEDULE: Monday–Friday, approximately 2:00 PM–6:00 PM

WHAT TO EXPECT
This is an active, hands-on role. Counselors spend their afternoons engaging with children leading activities, supervising transitions, supporting positive behavior, and making sure every child feels safe and has a great experience. Because our students rely on caring adults who show up ready to engage each day, teamwork, professionalism, and consistent attendance matter here as much as enthusiasm does.
As an Afterschool Counselor, you'll help create a safe, structured, engaging space where kids can be themselves and thrive.
RESPONSIBILITIES
● Supervise and actively engage groups of elementary-aged students throughout the program
● Lead and participate in games, arts and crafts, STEM activities, enrichment, and outdoor recreation
● Foster an inclusive, welcoming environment where every child feels supported and respected
● Encourage positive behavior and support students' social-emotional growth
● Ensure children's safety during transitions, activities, snack, and dismissal
● Support homework time and academic enrichment when applicable
● Assist with attendance, classroom organization, daily setup, and cleanup
● Communicate professionally with Site Supervisors, coworkers, families, and school staff
● Follow all program policies, licensing requirements, and safety procedures
● Serve as a positive role model through professionalism, patience, teamwork, and enthusiasm Qualifications
● Must be at least 17 years old
● High school diploma, equivalent, or current senior standing required
● Experience or passion to work with children in schools, camps, childcare, recreation, or youth programs
● Coursework or a degree in Education, Child Development, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field is a plus
● Must be able to complete required background checks and onboarding
